This 4-week rotation will begin with four days of preparation including lectures and simulations in Kalamazoo. One afternoon will be dedicated to packing supplies. The second week will include on-line preparation work that can be done in advance or while travelling to the clinical site in Iquitos Peru. Visits to local referral hospitals and research centers are included in this week. The third and four weeks take place in clinical settings remote underserved communities in the Jungle together with the local healthcare providers. This is a resource limited area. This will offer clinical experience under the supervision of designated local attending physicians and WMed faculty. Prior ultrasound training is useful. Participants should consider taking the September-October POCUS elective but this is not required. Spanish fluency is helpful but not required. Participants should be prepared for rustic accommodations during the two weeks in the Jungle.
