Description:
The Health Literacy elective is one-week, skills-oriented course teaching the basics of health literacy. Learning activities include identifying signs of low health literacy, how to administer a health literacy assessment test, how to conduct mock patient counseling sessions (teach back, rating the readability of drug and medical device advertisements and medical forms, explaining how to take medicines, and writing patient education materials and instructions). The course will provide students with the opportunity to develop and practice their plain language health communication skills.
